Higher than self-hosted shared hosting at comparable tiers; you are buying the maintenance being someone else’s job.
WordPress.com is the “we never want to think about hosting” answer. Automattic — the company behind WordPress itself — runs the whole stack: backups, security, CDN, updates. For a Nepali business owner whose time is worth more than the hosting premium, the maths can genuinely work.
The honest trade-off is control: lower tiers restrict plugin installation and theme choice, and at scale the cost exceeds self-hosting. Check the current plan matrix before committing — the restrictions differ by tier and have changed over time.
Our suggested path for Nepali SMEs: if you have (or can hire) a WordPress developer, self-hosted on a mainstream host gives more for less. If you don’t want any technical dependency, WordPress.com removes the entire category of hosting problems.
Good and bad
Good
- Zero maintenance or security burden
- Run by Automattic (WordPress co-creator)
- Global CDN and backups included
Watch out
- Plugin/theme restrictions on lower tiers
- Costlier than self-hosting at scale
- Less control than a VPS
Plans and prices
WordPress.com renders its pricing by script and tiers change frequently, so we don’t quote figures — check the linked pricing page for current Personal/Premium/Business rates and each tier’s plugin limits.
Buying from Nepal
There is no server to administer at all. Card payment needed; no plugins on the lowest tiers (check current plan limits before committing).
